Yamaha Rieju Marathon MRT Range
If theres one thing which is true about the British, its our resistance to change especially when there is a new vehicle on the scene. Nowadays its hard to believe that our attitude to Ford, back in the day, was
"Ford, they're made out of tin aren't they"
and it was very similar when a bike which was not British or Italian turned up at the TT.
Nowadays american cars and japanese motorbikes are everywhere.
Whilst Rieju are not looking for world domination, in ths same way as some of there more illustrious predecessors did, having tested the MRT range we are sure that one day the Spanish manufacturer will be up there with the best of the trail, enduro and supermoto bikes.
The MRT range has now been expanded to include the replicas of the Factory Race Team Models, new engine cc's and even a prototype 450 supermoto in preparation for its entry into the 2011 Italian championship. Whilst the team are now achieving top ten positions and podiums in various competitions.
So what's it all about
Firstly, why Yamaha Rieju - well all of the bikes have Yamaha engines, not copies - actual Yamaha engines, with the 50's being powered by Minarelli's (Yamaha's Italian subsidiary) and the rest by the same engines as in Yamaha's reknown WR range.
The Trail Bikes
We don't mean Dakar bikes or roadie bikes in a trail style, nor do we mean road legal Enduro/motocross bikes.
Think Honda CRF230F or Yamaha Serow, small, narrow lightweight road legal bikes, air cooled engines, etc, and years of history which make them very sought after and often copied, AJP and a zillion bikes from the far east. The problem is new one are almost impossible to find.
So, a round of applause, for the Rieju MRT125. Using a Yamaha WR125 engine, which Yamaha designed as a learner legal 125, so 15 Hp virtually the same as you'd get from from a CRF230F.
Question - Why an MRT125 instead of a WR125 ?
Answer - The frame - the WR frame is designed to look like a full blown Enduro its high and comparatively heavy. The MRT is very much lower, its light, lighter than a CRF230F and it has adjustable seat height.
Ask the Question again
Answer - The Components, the MRT is fitted with high end components from the likes of Marzocchi and as a result not only looks good, but has superb handling characteristics - in our opinion actually better than a CRF230F
Now for its big brother, the MRT200, actually a 196cc which dyno tested at the factory at 24hp, its faster than CRF230F, but is built into exactly the same frame and with the same high end components as the 125.
For years, "trailies" have been struggling to get CRF230F's or a suitable alternative, we believe the MRT125/200 are the future of trail riding - now.
DON'T BELIEVE US - well come and try one, within a few weeks we will have access to about 200 acres of land in Devon where you'll be able try the 125 & 200 and compare them with our own CRF230F.
BETTER STILL - Come for a full days ride out on legal lanes, all you need is to be 17 and hold a CBT or above. The day out costs £ 195 (we'll provide kit & lunch) and is refundable if you buy a new bike.
